about the band

The Summit Concert Band (SCB) was formed in 1982 when a group of local musicians climbed on a flat bed truck to play in the Breckenridge Ullrfest Parade. For over 40 years the Band has entertained the residents of Summit County, becoming an integral part of the arts community. Band members come from many different walks of life - professional and amateur musicians, doctors, lawyers, accountants, educators, ski instructors, parents and grandparents, and most especially, people who love playing and performing music.

The Summit Concert Band enjoys a long and beneficial relationship with the Summit County Schools instrumental music program. Band members mentor and nurture the development of these student musicians. The Band has purchased percussion instruments for the Summit High School instrumental music program. SCB enjoys rehearsing in the high school’s band room and shares its music library. Summit High School band and choral students often perform with the SCB, expanding their musicianship and professionalism.

An important part of the mission of the Summit Concert Band is to promote adult enrichment throughout the local area. The Band welcomes musicians of all abilities to participate in rehearsals and concerts. In June of 2014, the SCB founded a five-day concert band program, known as “Music at the Summit Adult Band Institute.” Adult musicians (and select students) gather to learn, practice and improve their skills under the tutelage of professionals. The Institute expanded in 2022 to include a five-day jazz band program called “Jazz at the Summit.” The two festivals draw amateur musicians from throughout Colorado and around the country, concluding with free public concerts.

The Summit Concert Band delights audiences year round, both indoors and outdoors, at formal concerts, holiday celebrations, festivals, and other community events. These performances include the High Country Holidays Concert, July 4th Celebrations, Veteran’s Salutes, and Oktoberfests around the local area. The Band enriches the community through these live performances, connecting people in a way that only music can.

SCB operates as an official 501c3 charitable organization.
